People who suffered abuse—either physical or emotional, and either from family or past romantic partners—can still have successful relationships. But abuse changes someone on a fundamental level. One of my first serious boyfriends was an abuse survivor and, the reality is that, what he had been through actually contributed to some of his greatest personality strengths. It is vitally important that we continue showing support for victims and survivors and we continue working towards a world that is free of abuse. One way of doing this is educating yourself on dating violence also known as domestic violence or intimate partner violence and having conversations with others. As a society, it is important to understand the connections between different national and social issues.
